How I got Engaged

So, Friday, December 5th, Ryan and I had a “date”. He said we were just going to walk around campus because he “didn’t have any money” and then go to Adoration* at the church. He called it a walk down memory lane and we went to some places on campus that were special to us. Now I had an intuition that he was going to pop the question that night (see the other page for clues) but I didn’t know where or when. But when he started taking me around the nursing school and stuff I figured he was stalling for time. Finally he said “I guess we should go to the church now” and as we were walking he told me that he really needed me to kneel and pray with him because he was worried about med school and stuff. I told him that of course I would pray with him. We get to the church and kneel before the Blessed Sacrament. Now, usually one only kneels before the Sacrament for a little bit, maybe a minute max, but we were just kneeling there for a long time. I was thinking, OK Ryan, I’m following you so get up, we’re hogging Jesus from everyone else. Then someone tapped me on the shoulder. It was my best friend Gina. I stood up to hug her and she said “I love you so much, turn around” and there he was. It was beautiful; he was on one knee with a ring in his hand. He said, and I quote, “”Words can simply not express how much I truly love you. So in front of our friends, with our family’s blessings, and in the presence of our Lord; I ask, will you marry me?”
And, because I like to pick on him a bit, I rolled my eyes like “do I have to?” and then I said yes! I think he was too nervous to even notice though. He put the ring on my finger and we sat down to pray. After a while Father Eddie came out and gave us a special blessing for engaged couples. Then I showed the ring off and hugged everyone. Then we all came back to my place and had a party that my friends set up. It was the most perfect proposal I could have ever asked for!

*Catholics believe that Jesus is truly present in the Eucharist, that when he said “This is my body” he wasn’t just talking about a symbol. So we can expose the Blessed Sacrament (the communion bread) in a thing called a monstrance (which is Latin for ‘to show’) and worship the Lord in His true presence. So my true love proposed to me in front of my perfect love.
